Hi,

We would like to build an application that lets the user control his home appliances using an Android tablet.
1. It should not involve another PC that runs an application/service for controlling devices.
2. The conventional devices such as bulbs, ceiling fans, etc should work with the solution. They may require an additional attachment to be fixed on the device.

Please let me know if such a technology exists and what it would take to build it. Are there and standards/protocols to make it possible?

Thanks,
Yash

There are already some apps out there that do this without any attachments. I guess you have to decide which technology you want to work with. I have Insteon products Smarthome and use the wdISY app to control all my devices connected to my ISY99. There are a total of 4 apps that work with isy and there are lots of other apps that work with different protocols.
