I would recommend you root your phone. You can then flash a JellyBean ROM and see if you like it. If not, then you can flash to an ICS or GB ROM or whatever one works best on your phone. Otherwise, don't take the jellybean update
TOSHIBA Thrive • Pio's Team Baked BlackBean 4.1.2 ROM
HTC EVO 4G • Decks Reloaded ROM
SAMSUNG GALAXY NEXUS(GSM) • Maguro Stock 4.2.1 JB
B&N Nook Color • Paranoid Android 2.99 (4.1.2) ROM
Samsung Galaxy Prevail • HalfAssed ROM
EVO Shift• Jelly Belly ROM
HTC Amaze • Speed ROM 9.0 Beta 1

iam currently on jelly bean (aokp rom) and yes, my battery drain was enormous. i couldn't get 6 h out of a charge.... but then i installed an app called battery calibration and now it's pretty good.
personaly i would install jelly bean, the new notification, project butter and minor updates/tweaks are something you would never wanna miss

Jelly Bean, is the fastest and smoothest version of Android yet. Jelly Bean improves on the simplicity and beauty of Android 4.0, and introduces a new Google search experience on Android.
Jelly Bean features improved performance throughout the system, including faster orientation changes, faster responses when switching between recent apps, and smoother and more consistent rendering across the system through vsync and triple buffering.

It's nice, but I like android 2.2, more classic.

Jelly bean is a very great system with some new sharp features but sometimes for some device, you may feel some troubles. It is normal and if you have the chance to upgrade your system to Jelly Bean, why not do that?
