I have all of my contacts in the google contacts for my phone. I have the format for the phone number as xxx-xxx-xxxx. When I call out, I dial xxx-xxxx and it doesn't recognize the person. Is there a fix other than dialing the unnecessary area code or changing the xxx-xxx-xxxx format in Google contacts to xxx-xxxx? Thanks in advance!

I usually just start dialing the person's name and it finds the number.
I'm using a Galaxy Nexus on ICS, I don't remember if that works on previous versions of Android.

Yes, I can start dialing the name and it works fine, but when I dial the local number, it doesn't find it. Is there a way to force the phone to a specific area code, so it knows local numbers?
